Financial Accountant – Mt Isa

Our client is one of the large Global diversified mining companies. The business model ensures a long and stable future with a growing client base and product suite.

This Financial Accountant position sits in the Financial Reporting side of the Finance team which has traditionally been a real strength with strong leadership.

The role works very closely with the operational side of the business ensuring that you gain much needed exposure to the reporting processes and operations. You will also be very hands on gaining experience and knowledge so you can add value at a later date.

You will need to have 4-5 years working in a large corporate business having completed a number of financial year ends or currently working in a Big Four Accounting firm. Ideally you will be about to study or have started your CA or CPA.

This is a fantastic business and the large number of people we have placed there have stayed and have thrived not only within their own development but for the business as well.

Recruitment as an iRecruitment Agenciesndustry has been around for an eternity. However, it still amazes me that with all the technology in the world that there are so many businesses and agencies that get the application process so wrong.

Applications Each Candidate has a Different ExperienceThere are millions of candidates out there applying for jobs each day and in each of those applications each candidate has a different experience. The candidate searches their favourite job site, sees a job they like and believe they are suitable for whether it is a senior position in the Executive Search space or junior entry level end of the market.

The Job Site Asks You to Fill in Your Mobile Number and Email AddressThey hit the apply button and they may be directed to a business run job portal to fill in a bunch more information that is already in your resume or the job site asks you to fill in your mobile number and email address and to attach your resume and cover letter.

In my ten years of recruitment in Brisbane it saddens me to still see high profile companies getting this simple process so wrong. Each application should get an automated response to let the candidate know that the application has been received. This does not happen in every case.

If you are a large corporate, then you are doing your business brand a disservice by not having a decent recruitment system that provides for an application response and emails letting candidates know they have been unsuccessful. This is probably the worst area; candidates get the most frustrated by the lack of any communication whatsoever.

HR Person Managing the ProcessIt is a sad situation nowadays where candidates just expect that they won’t hear from anyone when they apply for jobs. The advice I give my candidates is to ring the company about 48 hours after application and try and speak to the HR person managing the process, with this call be prepared as though it is a phone screening interview as this is a first impression for you. The best thing about this though is that the HR person is forced to look at your resume which is more than what most will get.

Talk This Person Through the ResumeYou are then at somewhat of an advantage as you can talk this person through the resume and it is then not just a resume on a computer screen it comes to life through you talking to the person on the end of the phone. It really is amazing how that can influence what a person thinks when the resume suddenly becomes humanised – give it a try, see what happens.

The number of resumes and cover letters I get that are addressed to a different person or company or a different job completely is just amazing. If you think applying for jobs is a numbers game and the more you apply, the better your chances of success, then you are just plain wrong.

applying for jobs You have to treat every job application separately and take the time to make sure that you have addressed the selection criteria or key components in the job advert in your resume and highlighted it in your cover letter.

Brisbane recruitment agencies

The sad part of it is (and I am sure all Brisbane recruitment agencies and internal recruiters get this all the time) it is so easy to dismiss an application and put it in the reject pile if there are spelling mistakes, they seem to have just hit apply with an old cover letter addressed to a different job they applied for last week.

The point is, if you are seriously looking to change jobs or you are currently unemployed then you need to take a hard look at the applications you are making and make sure that you are indeed qualified and appropriately skilled to do the job but also that your resume and cover letter fully represent you and the great candidate that you are.

Our client is in the financial services industry with a close alignment to the energy sector. The business requires a Chief Financial Officer for a six month period to ensure that the financial integrity and overall operational fitness continue to be adhered.

The Chief Financial Officer is an integral part of the senior leadership team providing overall strategy and direction for the business. The position and business require a true hands on leader to manage the financial strategy, ongoing development of policies and procedures and controls designed to preserve company assets and report accurate financial results.

You will manage, finance, IT and all corporate services for the business as part of your daily job. As well as the internal stakeholders, you will have a number of external stakeholders like banking and financial institutions, auditors and investment advisers and any customers and suppliers that the business has.

You will obviously be suitably qualified to be the Chief Financial Officer and possess the significant experience and leadership skills to excel. This is an executive role and has high expectations, although this is only for six months it is critically important that the person has the ability to be hands on, while using strong judgement and diplomacy with an engaging personality and excellent relationship skills.

You will have been a CFO or similar in a large complex business, ideally but not compulsory within the financial services sector.
